Hello, friends. I want to keep giving you a “pulse” of what’s coming from this newish work of writing, recording, and performing songs.

The latest surprise is that the song “Tomorrow is Now Today” was referenced — at length — in a sermon last weekend. Sermons and such might not be your thing. But since this speaker “reads” the song exactly for what it intends to point to, I want to share it with you. It’s a joy when these songs show up in unexpected places and contribute to others’ work.

Places where it doesn’t fit, but it does belong.

Hello! Been a while since I’ve gotten an update to all of you. This one is a doosie. Doozy? My record came out 1 year ago(!). Since then:

• Dozens of shows: house concerts, churches, venues, & fundraisers

• Played in 9 states

• 2 songs on the radio

• Listeners streaming on every continent

The best part continues to be the conversations ppl want to have about the songs & their own experiences. It’s pretty wild.

All this to say: Thank you. People seeing what you make feels like love.

New shows have been added for the summer... with more in the works still.

🚨 NEWS: Jeremy Casella invited me to open for him for his Mid-Atlantic dates this summer. Due to a couple changes, there are now TWO open dates available. If you want to have Jeremy come play in your home (or church, etc.), both July 14 and July 16 are available. He's put together something really special for this tour. I can send you more details.

Hey everyone! A lot of new performance dates have been added.

And we're booking more. Here are specific things in the works:

➡️ If you're *anywhere between* Baltimore and St. Louis and can host a show (or have an extra bed I can borrow) Sept. 4-6 OR 10-11, please holler at me.

➡️ A couple folks are interested in hosting events in Colorado, but I have to get 1 or 2 more performance dates lined up to make the travel cost work. Know anyone?

➡️ Shows are getting planned for the VA/DC area summer and fall. I would love to coordinate playing at your place during one of those trips.

» LYRICS to all the songs on The Mo(µ)rning EPs are NOW SYNCED to music streaming services. This means that if you open Apple Music or Spotify, you can see all the words. They are “timed” with the music. You can also use any karaoke feature (which uses AI to take out the vocal). If any of you replies with a video of you singing along to instrumental version of of any of my songs, you can pick the name of my next kid.

So many Christmas songs.

But maybe you’ve never heard a Christmas *Eve* song.

It’s maybe a little bit like pregnancy.

A new creation, growing inside you. It’s *not you*, but you nurture it. You can’t make it grow. You can’t divide the cells. But as it expands, so do you.

A year ago, I was in Nashville recording The Mo(µ)rning EPs. A collection of songs whose writing, in some ways, kept me alive. And TOMORROW the full album is released everywhere. Just because something is eventually inevitable doesn’t mean it’s not a miracle.

Some people have asked me to say more about the songs I'm releasing. Here's a short reflection on the inception of the song "It Is Love":

When I first played some of this new batch of songs for an audience in 2019, I couldn't open my eyes and look at folks. I was scared to. I didn't want to see that I was being looked at. And I didn't want people to think that I was up there singing because I wanted to be seen.

I thought that if someone was kindly listening to my song, I might in turn *owe them* something for it. Which is totally unfair of me, not just to myself, but to the people in the room, too. I was giving others power that they weren't asking for, and this would cause me to treat them not as friends, but as creditors. I was in their debt. But only by my own doing.

But what if I believed I didn't need anything from "you". And what if I didn't think that you were needing anything from me? That might be a place where love can actually exist – because it's a space without the possibility of resentment. It's a space without fear.

Grace is sometimes defined as "getting something you don't deserve." I've come to believe that grace is also a "non-owing." Because to owe someone something — or to think that I owe someone something — in return for their love is actually a great offense to the unconditional gift that love is.

Neither do you deserve nor do you owe. That's love. So then, as the song asks, "How do you prove you don't need the proof?" I've been trying to navigate that mysterious question for while now.

Writing this song a couple years ago was a new push for me to wanting to relate to people differently. I started a slow process of trying to be less afraid with people. Not as an exercise in building my confidence, but as just trying to be more kind to the other person.

I've discovered my best relationships are those where we know we can and will hurt each other, and that that's ok; That to say, "You hurt me, and I want to talk about it," isn't a treated as a threat. That's where I wanna be.
